MORE ON Active Serums

Rare Ritual active serums are precision-formulated, water-based treatments designed to deliver targeted actives directly after toning, before anything else touches the skin. These are the concern-workers in the range: the formulas that address specific skin goals through carefully selected, evidence-backed actives, each disclosed and classified in full.

Active Serums: Precision on Freshly Toned Skin

An active serum is not simply a lighter serum. It is a pH-adjusted, water-based formula that delivers actives in the concentration and environment where they function best. Applied to clean, freshly toned skin, before any oil-based products, the active serum has unobstructed access to the skin’s surface. There is nothing between it and the skin. That is the entire point.

Each Rare Ritual active serum is built around a named ingredient palette that maps to a specific concern. Bakuchiol and niacinamide support the appearance of renewed, firmer skin. Salicylic acid and centella asiatica address the conditions associated with acne and congestion. Alpha-arbutin, kojic acid, tranexamic acid, and glutathione target the visible appearance of uneven tone and pigmentation. Every active is disclosed, classified into one of the four Rare Ritual ingredient buckets, and included at a level supported by published literature on that ingredient.

The Three Active Serum Families

Clarity Active Serum (No 07) is formulated for acne-prone and congested skin. Salicylic acid, centella asiatica, allantoin, and panthenol work together to visibly calm redness, support the appearance of clearer skin, and provide comfort to skin that is reactive or frequently inflamed.

Radiance Active Serums (No 08 and No 09) address pigmentation and uneven tone from two directions. No 08 Radiance Reset targets existing dark spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with a brightening active blend including alpha-arbutin, tranexamic acid, and glutathione. No 09 Radiance Prevent maintains daily brightness and helps visibly even tone over time.

Renewal Active Serum (No 10) is designed for anti-ageing and barrier-reinforcement concerns. Bakuchiol, vitamin A palmitate, niacinamide, and sodium hyaluronate work to support the appearance of smoother, firmer, more resilient skin with regular use.

How to Use an Active Serum

Apply 1 drop to clean, fully dry skin after toning. Smooth evenly across the face and neck. Wait until the skin no longer feels wet and the serum has fully absorbed before applying anything else. This absorption window matters. A serum applied too quickly on top disrupts the one below.

If using two active serums in the same ritual, apply the primary-concern serum first, allow full absorption, then layer the second. For sensitive skin, consider alternating: one serum in the morning and one in the evening, rather than stacking both at once.

Active Serums and the Ritual Order

Active Serums come early in the ritual. They follow the toner, which resets the skin and primes absorption, and they go on before the eye cream, the oil serum, and the Facial Mousse seal. The position is deliberate. Water-based actives need to absorb before any oil or occlusive layer is applied. The ritual builds, lightest to richest, with the active serum as the performance layer at the base.
